Ok, i alredy posted it in homework help – nobody helped. I need to find out names of the people , who were involved in a shooting in North Carolina (Alomance county) in 1985. That`s all the info that teacher gave me! I know the state, the county, the year and what the case was about and i have to bring the answer by monday! Since i wasn`t even born that year and ive never been to N. Carolina in my life some kind people told me that criminal cases are public and i can search them for free, but they all ask for name and zip code, when that`s the things that i don`t know! I know, that probably there were a lot of cases that year in that county, but i have no chance, but go through all of them! Can i do it by year? Or how else can i find that names out? I have day and a half left to research! Help! Thanks!

May be this site can help you in getting the desired result.
yes
I don’t know the ins & outs of U S law & criminal records- but in England, if not near the courts where
any resulting trial was held(therefore having access to court records) I would go to the library to access
the relevant data, via local newspaper records.
possibility of some information being on the internet now
Try http://www.nccourts.org/. If that doesn’t work for you, search for other sites like it.
Alamance county should not have a huge number of cases for 1985. Although it does include Burlington, county population is only around 150,000. You will just have to glance through all the cases, looking for "aggravated assault" or "murder," or whatever the specifics were.
It is much easier if you know the names…maybe you could search an Alamance county newspaper data base looking for "shooting crimes" in 1985? Or if you want to get really sneaky, call the Chamber of Commerce at a time when they’re not too busy, and ask if they remember it or know who might. The people who run these things are usually really nice, and often don’t have a whole lot to do. If it was a major case, people may still be talking about it 25 years later.
