I would like to know if my childhood sex offender is still alive and I want to know if I can find out for free somehow if I know where he was last living?! Anyplace online I try to look wants a membership fee. Isn’t this a public record?

Depends where you live……and what the regulations are. In some places they will tell you if the person is alive or dead but won’t give you details of when where. In Ontario Canada, they charge a $57 fee if you are next of kin for a certified copy of the death certificate.
If you know where the person was living, you could call local cemeteries/crematoriums and ask if "Mr …….." is buried or was cremated there"……..or, you could call local funeral homes in the area where he was living.
I’m a funeral director and we don’t give out information but if someone called and asked if we did the funeral for "Mr……." because their aunt was very low and wanted to make sure you had the right funeral home, they would be able to tell you if they conducted the funeral.
Your local police could possible advise you on this.
Edit: Zabasearch is not free! You have to pay!…..and it doesn’t tell you whether they are alive or dead. It provides the last known address and phone number and if he had a wife/family, the information could still be in his name. When my husband died, I left my phone number in his name by choice for safety reasons.
Try Zabasearch.com.It is free.Hope this helps
