Restored to its original state in 1986 by the Pittsylvania Historical Society, the building is now home to a wide assortment of county historical artifacts, including numerous items of military history – from the Revolutionary War through World War II. Step inside this cozy building, now listed as a Pittsylvania Historical Society, and take a trip back in time.

Do these Virginia court records exist?

Posted by | Posted in Virginia Court Records | Posted on 09-03-2011

Question by The Reverend.: Do these Virginia court records exist?
In 1619 the first Africans were imported to America as indentured servants. (Someone who worked to repay a debt, or on contract for food or shelter, then released when the contract was up). In 1654 Anthony Johnson was a free African who bought his own servant, John Casor. Virginia court records show that he claimed he owned Casor for life. He won and slavery was official in America.
