WSLS – Man Arrested for Dogfighting Connections

WSLS 10′s Angela Hatcher: BEDFORD CO. – The Humane Society of the United States says a major figure in the dog fighting world has been arrested in Bedford County. As WSLS first broke on Tuesday, The Humane Society says Jeffrey Denny has acknowledged selling hundreds of dogs for breeding or fighting all over the country. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office says Denny drove from North Carolina to the Montvale Exxon Monday evening, where they say Denny attempted to sell a pit bull to an undercover deputy. Two pit bulls were seized along with Denny’s van, which is crammed full of dog crates. Sheriff Mike Brown says Denny planned to continue driving to Charleston, West Virginia, where Denny had made arrangements to sell the second dog. The sheriff’s office doesn’t know anything about the person in West Virginia who wanted to buy the second dog, other than that person is not a police officer. Police in North Carolina searched Denny’s Franklinville Home where sixteen more dogs were seized. Police also found the following items related to dog fighting; break sticks, needles and syringes, an auto suture gun, a tool box containing medical supplies, medications and veterinary supplies, IV supplies and saline solution, mineral supplements, dog collars and a dog harness. Police also seized eight guns and ammunition, drug paraphernalia and computer and written records from the home. Denny faces one felony charge in Bedford County for transporting animals for fighting. We serve clients throughout the state. We defend home foreclosures with the aim of winning and keeping you in your home. News Why Lenders Cannot Find Mortgage Notes It seems like the mortgage note would be a basic piece of paperwork a mortgage lender would have readily available. However, with the way mortgages (primarily subprime mortgages) have been sold, re-sold, and re-sold again over the past 5 years the paperwork hasn’t always kept up with the sales transactions. If this is the case with your mortgage company and you ask them to produce your original mortgage note and they cannot, then they may not legally be able to proceed in a foreclosure against you until they can locate the note. If this is the case you may have some time to work something out to keep your home. Visit http or call (888) 445-2851.

Will a some-what spotty criminal record keep me from being accepted to the Peace Corps?

Posted by | Posted in West Virginia Court Records | Posted on 18-05-2010

I was charged with a felony for taking my parents car on a joy ride when I was 15 (unauthorized use of a vehicle)… 1 underage alcohol citation before the age of 18. One as a 19 year old. And two disorderly conducts that were thrown out in court. One is when I ran away from police when they were writing me a citation and one was when I was involved in a fight in West Virginia which was later exponged.

Other than that ….

I am in a major that specifies in Non-profit organizations at the College of Charleston.

I have two years of Spanish under my belt.

I have volunteer experience.

Have had a finance internship.

I know that no one can tell me for sure if I’ll make it in. But have you heard of charges keeping people out of the Peace Corps?

Family Adventures Guaranteed not to Disappoint

Posted by | Posted in West Virginia Court Records | Posted on 18-05-2010

Now be honest, parents. Isn’t there the slightest bit of dread coming to the surface as you contemplate your next family vacation? First, there’s the whining chorus, “Are we there yet?” This only grows worse when you “get there” and, about an hour into the sightseeing, the kids begin to moan that there’s no fun and they’re bored stiff. Well, I’ve got a prime solution to this age-old problem. I’ve got five destinations that are guaranteed to keep the kids laughing and the parents rejoicing. Check out these ideas: 1) Wisconsin Dells: You may have never even heard of the Dells. If not, where have you been? Hiding out under a rock somewhere? Well, I must admit, the population is only about 4,000 but it’s known as the water park capitol of the world. You can surf or boogie board 365 days a year. You can do family raft rides down super fast rapids, tube down a six-story-high thrill ride, do body slides that twist and turn from ten stories up into flumes and stomach-turning drops. And the water sports are just the beginning. Ride a go-cart, go snowmobiling, bungee jump, creep through a haunted house, or take off on the world’s tallest vertical accelerator. Go to a petting zoo, visit the Bartlett Exploratory with 150 interactive exhibits, visit Wizard Quest’s interactive game of fantasy, enjoy the self Paint-it Pottery Shop. Need I say more. You will not run out of things to do, even if you stay for two weeks. The Dells is a winner. 2) Yellowstone National Park: Everyone’s heard of this place, but do you really know what it offers? Besides the idyllic camping experience, you can go horseback riding, snowmobiling, snowcoach or stagecoach riding, cross-country skiing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, or cruising around gorgeous Yellowstone Lake. The best place to view wildlife up close is probably in Lamar Valley and the Northeast Entrance. Here you see grizzly, coyote, gray wolf, fox, black bear, river otters, elk, bison, and pronghorn and mule deer. You can watch Old Faithful spout off or go to the Norris Geyser Basin and watch the geysers in a little sweet privacy. The best news for you parents is the excellent Junior Ranger program offered by the park. It offers day hikes introducing kids to the natural wonders throughout the park. A lot of fun. Then come back to the campsite just in time to grill chicken, steak, or burgers for the perfect end to a great day. 3) Black Hills/Badlands of South Dakota: This area takes in a whopping 10,000 square miles of vast prairies, badland landscapes, rugged mountains, and grasslands. It’s also home to seven National Parks and many State Parks. View the breathtaking Mt. Rushmore and the new monument of Chief Crazy Horse. Explore caves or visit an archaeological dig of 50 giant mammoths. Pan for gold, hike, bike, cross-country ski, snowmobile, ride ATVs, or ride horses, Again, the Junior Ranger program is excellent here also. Kids will examine fossils, watch amazing nature movies of the park, and enjoy rare hands-on displays and dinosaur exhibits. If you ever weary of these activities, take in an Old West shootout and a cowboy dinner show. Then take the family to one of the six theme and amusement parks in the area. The Badlands is bad!…in a good way. 4) San Francisco: I can tell you now, San Fran is far, far more than Fisherman’s Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge. There are two great zoos to choose from: the San Francisco Zoo and the Oakland Zoo. San Fran Zoo is larger and has more varied wildlife. Oakland is part of 525-acre Knowland Park. It’s a bit more laid back and less congested with crowds. The Bay Area Discovery Museum includes 28,000 square feet of exhibits. Kids can climb all over a wrecked fishing boat, learn to ride a unicycle, and create clay animation movies. There are mixed reviews about the Children’s Fairyland. Admittedly, it’s an ancient playground, but young kids seem to adore it. For some of them, it will be their favorite destination. At the Zeum Museum kids can record their own music video to take home, they can have fun in the Claymation Studio, or they can use kids’ desktop publishing to create their own piece of full-color art. At the Hershey Factory kids see how candies are made and get some free chocolate. And, for the older kids, I haven’t even covered the massive Underwater World and Steinhart Aquarium or Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and exploring World War II submarines. 5) Kingsmill Resort: This place stretches out over 3,000 acres of Virginia wilderness. For the adults, there are three 18-hole golf courses, 15 tennis courts, and a sports club featuring indoor and outdoor pools, exercise classes, personal trainers, and a billiards and game room. For the kids, a wonderful Kids’ Camp offers 5-12-year-olds a chance to learn tennis, golf, ping pong, arcade games, swimming, and fishing. They also enjoy theme days and the creation of arts and crafts. Kids can also play at the beach area and collect shells, The Kid’s Night Out offers parents a romantic evening alone as the kids enjoy a pizza, game, and movie party. If you explore everything the resort has to offer, Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens is close by. The hardest part will probably be deciding which of these fantasy family vacations you want to plan. You simply cannot go wrong choosing any one of these trips. Have fun.

Greatest Nba Team of All-time!

Posted by | Posted in West Virginia Court Records | Posted on 17-05-2010

In the fall of 1976, when I was one the cusp of my 8th birthday, I had a sports awakening.  Suddenly, the concept of professional sports became a reality to me.  The Portland Trail Blazers were (and, sadly, still are) the only major professional sports organization in the state of Oregon.  I loved to play basketball and so following the Blazers became a passion for me.  I was with them almost from training camp when they let Moses Malone go because the new coaching staff, led by Dr. Jack Ramsay, felt like he didn’t fit in with their team concept.

From the outset, the Blazers played impressively.  They started Bill Walton at center, Maurice Lucas at power forward, Bobby Gross at small forward, Lionel Hollins at shooting guard, and Dave Twardzik at the point.  Their bench consisted of veterans Larry Steele, Lloyd Neal, Corky Calhoun, and Herm Gilliam as well as young guns Wally Walker, Johnny Davis, and Robin Jones.

Walton, then in his prime with his red hair in a pony tail or surrounded by a headband, was the best passing center of all-time.  His defensive rebounds and outlet passes to the quick guards Twardzik and Davis were legendary.  He led the league in rebounds and blocked shots that year.  Leading scorer Maurice Lucas was my favorite player because of his bruising style.  Later Karl Malone would remind me of a higher scoring version of Lucas.  He was the Enforcer!

Bobby Gross had a solid mid-range jumper and the backcourt of Hollins and Twardzik was not particularly flashy, but they were scrappy defenders and not afraid to go after loose balls.  Larry Steele was the veteran ’sixth man’.  He was the longest-tenured Blazer at the time and had led the league in steals a few years before (I believe it was the first year the stat was recorded) and was an excellent defender with a solid outside shot.  Herm Gilliam was the wily vet who could enter the game and calm things down when the young Blazers were threatening to self-destruct.  Rookie Johnny Davis came along as the year progressed and kept up the intensity that the starting five would initiate.

In the frontcourt, Neal backed up both Lucas and Walton.  He was a banger and was good for some solid rebounding and defense.  He was injured part of the year and this gave Jones a chance to play in his rookie season.  Veteran Corky Calhoun came from the Lakers and had experience to offer at the small forward position.  Walker was a rookie, I believe, out of Virginia and was important to the Blazers because he brought in the female fans with his feathered Andy Gibb hair.

The regular season for the Blazers was nothing special.  Yes they finished with their franchise-best record of 48 or 49 wins, but the Los Angeles Lakers were the team to beat in the West that year.  The playoffs began for the Blazers in a best-of-three series against Chicago.  The Bulls were in the Western Conference then.  After disposing of the Bulls in three hard-fought games, the Denver Nuggets, fresh out of the ABA, beckoned.  Dan Issel, David Thompson and the Nuggets were formidable foes.  Ramsay’s decision to use Davis more in the backcourt because of his quickness paid off as the Blazers won the best-of-seven series in six games.

Next up – the Lakers.  This had to be one of the most under-rated upsets in NBA history as Portland stomped Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the Lakers in four straight games.  Then they had to wait several days to learn who their opponent would be in the NBA Finals.

The Philadelphia 76ers dared to face the history-making Blazers.  They had Dr. J, George McGinnis, Lloyd (not yet World B.) Free, Doug Collins, and Chocolate Thunder himself, Darryl Dawkins.  Portland was given little chance against the star-laden Sixers.  But after Erving, Free, and finally McGinnis missed potential game-tying jumpers the ball was swatted to mid-court by Walton and Davis ran the clock out for a 109-107 Game 6 victory that crowned the Portland Trail Blazers the 1976-77 NBA Champions.  That was the first year that Oueen’s ‘We Are the Champions’ was used for a champion’s theme song.

The next year was better for the Blazers in the regular season but Walton went down with an injury and the Blazers never recovered.  But Blazermania and ‘Rip City’ had begun!  Why is this team the best ever?  Because they were the champs the year I ‘discovered’ hoops and I learned from them the meaning of ‘team’ play.  Each one of them checked their egos at the door and sacrificed themselves for the good of the team.  No other team since then has exhibited such successfully unselfish behavior.  They were a team brought together for a purpose and they accomplished what they set out to do in training camp when Coach Ramsay started camp with a timed mile run that built team camaraderie.

As it turns out, 1977 was a pivotal year for me in establishing my favorite teams in the three major sports.  I followed the Denver Broncos (my hometown) as they lost to the Dallas Cowboys in the Super Bowl in January and finished the year by rooting for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they lost to the Reggie Jackson-led New York Yankees in the World Series.  But in between the two, a champion arose that conquered by submitting to one another’s strengths for the good of the team like no other team had before or has since.  Thirty one years later, Blazermania lives on because of their accomplishments.
