Old ticket from 1996?

I was on the phone with a clerk in Jackson, MS a few months back clearing my record from a speeding ticket that was reduced to a non moving violation. She asked me if i was ever in Simpson County and I said no. She states well I have a ticket here that has your last name but spelled with a H instead of an L and the SSN is off by one number. Now I get a letter in the mail from Mississippi Court Collections saying I owe a $180.00 speeding ticket from Feb 1996. The clerk obviuosly corrected these mistakes to reflect my name and SSN. MS no longer uses SSN on their DL and I have a newer issued DL with a completely different number. Should I fight this or go ahead and pay this? Is there a statue of limitations on this? My problem with fighting this is taking the time off to go and fight it. I honestly can remember that far back if I was even there or not because it was so long ago.

This is typical of our courts in America (Guilty until you prove yourself innocent!) How far away do you live from Jackson? Did you ever live nearby? You need to write a detailed letter explaining what you just so eloquently explained above. Have an attorney assist you and sign his/her name to the letter asking that this fine and incident be vacated from your files because you had nothing to do with it. Some courts can be reasonable when you explain and hire an attorney.
