Where can you find public records to see if you are divorced?

My wife left several years ago, and I heard she got a divorce from me in another state. Is there a way to find out if i am divorced ?

If she filed for divorce you would have been served divorce papers, if you weren’t served then chances are she has never filed. If you ARE divorced you would have been notified either via registered/certified mail with the final decree or an attorney would have called to let you know they have the papers at their office. If none of those things have happened then you’re not divorced.
Well you have to be divorced in the state that you live in plus you would have to sign the divorce papers so it sounds like you are still married. But check your district court, they are a court of records and would have that information. Also call the district court in the state she "divorced" you in and they would be able to let you know. But really unless you signed the papers you should still be married. Plus every court of record for each state has a website to look up the case info becasue it is public so check the web it;s usually the state first like cocourts.gov for Colorado
I believe you have to know what city & state she did it in…then contact the courts in that city.
By law they would have had to make "legal" attempts to reach you to advise you of the divorce & court date…if your "ex" told them she doesn’t know where u are or live they would have told her she had to run an ad in the paper advising you publicly about the proceedings. She would NOT need you to sign the papers for the divorce as long as she provided the court that she "attempted" to contact you via the newspaper…When I got a divorce from my 1st husband we had a 2yr old…we lived in the same city…I told the Attorney I had no idea where in the city he was living (true) so I had to pay the Atty. to run the ad in the local paper for that city as we had no address to have the Sheriff serve him the papers at. I know he seen the ad cuz he called me to tell me he would NOT be in court, and he was NOT in court the day of…needless to say the divorce went thru and I got sole custody of our son who is now 28. So IF he didn’t believe me he would/could have contact Superior Court in our town/state and they would have provided him with the info. Start there & good luck to you.
